MX-5 Cup 2018 schedule released, finale at MMC

Courtesy of Racer: Mazda has announced the 2018 Battery Tender Global Mazda MX-5 Cup presented by BFGoodrich Tires schedule. The schedule features four INDYCAR weekends, including a return to the popular Portland International Raceway, in Portland, Oregon, for the first time since 2008. The championship season will conclude in October at the Monticello Motor Club, just 90 minutes from New York City.

Each of the six weekends features two 45-minute races for a 12-race championship. The MX-5 Cup champion earns a $200,000 Mazda Road to 24 (MRT24) Scholarship. The Rookie-of-the-Year will earn a $75,000 MRT24 scholarship, making this the best value in sports car racing.

There will also be a pre-season “Spring Training” in conjunction with the Mazda Road to Indy at Barber Motorsports Park on March 3-4.

Trying to Make a PB+J On Our Off-Road Course

Courtesy of The Drive: Here’s the second installment in our series in which video editor Erica Lourd attempts to make a sandwich while I drive like a jackass.

The first was: a Caprese sandwich, around Lime Rock Park’s autocross course, in a Subaru WRX; here, I’m behind the wheel of a Subaru Crosstrek, while Erica attempts to make a PB&J, as we fly up and down and over the off-road course at Monticello Motor Club. (Apparently, we have a thing for Subies.) A few things to consider:

  • We realize now—but did not before making the first video, which was a spontaneous and mostly ad-libbed affair—the potential sexism inherent in a female staffer making a sandwich for a male staffer. (You may not care, but we do.) We decided to just have fun with it again for video two, and suggest you do the same. Erica will have her revenge in video three.
