In 2020, due to COVID, MMC had limited sound levels to 100 dB. For 2021, as life returns to normal, we will return to our 103 dB limit – the same limit published since opening in 2008. We will continue to strictly self-enforce this 103 dB sound limit on all track days, including race days. We will no longer tolerate extended “testing” as the few members with racecars in excess of 103 dB are usually aware of the issue. Moreover, we will park racecars that exhibit sudden jumps in sound pressures over 103 dB, such as cars with manual controls over timing and valves. If you need to short-shift or use less than 100% throttle when passing a sound station to remain below 103 dB, then your racecar isn’t compliant. We measure from random stations at 50 feet (+/- 2 feet) from the left edge of the racetrack, and we use multiple meters to compare measurements. 103 dB is very generous, and we are one of the few racetracks with incredibly supportive neighbors. Let’s please take care of them in return.
If you haven’t had the chance to speak with Brian Trainor, you should. He’s a genuine soul who truly appreciates life and the opportunities life has awarded him, just as much as he appreciates being a Member of MMC. Our Member Services team will tell you that Brian always walks in with a smile and an easy-going vibe before throwing out a “what’s new” or “how’s it going” with a true interest in your response. A big fan of the Club’s Fleet Access, Brian has driven his way through the MMC’s fleet, and if ever a car he requests is unavailable, his response is typically “What else have you got? I don’t care, give me something fun to drive.” And that is exactly what Brian is looking for – to have fun. While he refers to himself as a “weekday warrior,” saving his weekends for family time at the Jersey Shore, he will admit that the days he gets to MMC are the happiest days in the month.
Brian was born and raised in Westchester County, NY where he lived until recently when he moved to Greenwich, CT with his wife of 35 years. He also has two children who will both be getting married this summer after being postponed last summer.
What made you join MMC?
I’ve always had a love for cars and a desire to drive on a racetrack. When I became a member in 2015, I knew it would be great to be a part of something so unique and exclusive. Before I joined, I had never even been on a track and the thrill of knowing that I could now was amazing!
What’s it like being a Member of MMC?
I feel blessed and privileged to be a part of MMC. It’s so cool – the ride up to Monticello, the track, the cars, the other Members. When I come through the gates, I know it’s going to be a great day.
I have met some great people and developed relationships. I’ve had nights out with other Members, and I love catching up with the MMC staff, as well as the instructors.
Its great being part of MMC. It’s awesome!
You’ve participated in most of the driving experiences that MMC has to offer. What was your favorite and why?
Aside from the track, Cross Karts and rally driving. I’ve done everything from winter snow driving to Polaris, to karting, but those two, without a doubt, are my favorite. Driving in the dirt is a different feel and I really love the karts. Being that low to the ground at that speed in tight corners is a blast.
What do you like most about coming to the Club?
It’s always my happiest day of the month. I’m a car guy. I like checking out at other members’ cars, driving on the track at high speeds and trying to figure out the turns. It’s a great feeling to be part of the coolest Club around. I don’t know where else you can find something so unique. And I love the adrenaline rush.
What is your favorite track vehicle?
My favorite would have to be my 911 Turbo, but I’ll only track it once or twice at the end of the season. I like the Club’s Caymans and M2 racecars and will drive a Miata on occasion when I want to drive a manual. I test drove a McLaren at the track and that was fantastic. I’m really looking forward to driving the new GT4.
Why do you feel Fleet Access is a better option for you?
I think it works for me because I don’t have to worry about brakes and tires and the upkeep when I’m done for the day. I get to drive something different each time I go to the Club and it gives me a chance to see what different cars can do on track. I get to see how cars respond to the track and how I respond to the car.
What is your line of work?
I own a home care business, Home Instead, where we take care of seniors in their homes. We are based out of White Plains.
If you’re not working, and not at the track, where would we find you?
My weekends are mostly spent at Long Beach Island in the Jersey Shore with my family and friends. If I’m not there, I may be riding one of my bikes. I have two vintage Harley Davidsons – a 1977 Café Racer and 1964 Pan Head. I don’t ride that often, but I like to take them out on the back roads of Westchester and Greenwich. I also try to grab a round of golf when I can.
What was your first car?
1964 Dodge Dart that cost $100. I think that was in 1978.
What was you first job?
After my teenage jobs, my first real job was a car salesman for a Buick dealership…crazy times!
