Living with the 718 Cayman

Courtesy of MultiBriefs Exclusive: I took delivery on my 718 Cayman on July 1, a little more than six months ago. The next weekend, I drove 150 miles to Monticello Motor Club for the Stuttgart Challenge in a monsoon. Within weeks, the Northeast was hit by two successive heat waves of nearly 100 degrees, and now more recently we’ve seen as many subzero cold fronts.

I think it’s safe to say that in this time frame I have seen the breadth of atmospheric ailments — none of which has influenced when or how I drive, as the 718 remains my daily transportation. With the exception of a deep snow (where it’s a substandard plow), the Cayman gets me to wherever I need to be as well as any car I’ve owned.

PCA Club Racing returns to MMC in 2018

Courtesy of Speedway Digest: The Porsche Club of America (PCA) Club Racing Trophy East series is undergoing several exciting changes for its 2018 season, welcoming in GTC Cup cars, including the 991.1 and 997.2 versions of the 911, to join the Cayman GT4 Clubsport entries at each race event.

The series will be traveling to six events for the 2018 season at some of the United States’ most challenging courses. The tentative 2018 schedule was at the championship celebration banquet in late October at the Goodyear 500 Club at Daytona International Speedway following the last race of the 2017 season.

Classic Racers Can’t Stand Still at AIM Concours

Courtesy of The Drive: Fifty years from now, when the masses are shuttled in autonomous UberPods, and drones hunt the last rebels who dare to drive, tracks like Monticello Motor Club may be the only sanctuary for holdouts who can’t let go of their keys, or the good old days.

Overly apocalyptic? Perhaps. But as I drive in a road rally at the Art in Motion Concours d’Elegance, it’s clear why vintage and collector cars still command big crowds and astronomical prices: Those robotic hydrogen shuttles may be safer and greener, but they won’t be as beautiful, romantic or fun.

PCA Competitors at Monticello Motor Club

Courtesy of Speedway Digest: Porsche Club of America (PCA) CLub Racing competitors enjoyed fast, competitive racing in perfect racing conditions Saturday and Sunday at the Porsche of Conshohocken Presents the 2017 Riesentoter Stuttgart Challenge at Monticello Motor Club.

More than 100 drivers took part in the annual event at the exclusive 18-turn, 3.6-mile asphalt road course about 90 miles north of New York City. The automotive country club’s staff gave competitors, family, and friends the ultimate member experience with delicious meals and first-class, friendly service.
