2018 Trackhawk Review at MMC [video]

Courtesy of FoxNews: The Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk is a real time-saver. If you don’t mind pushing your luck with the law.

That’s because the latest version of the cargo-hauling, trailer-towing, family-friendly all-weather SUV is the most powerful and one of the quickest utility vehicles in the world.

It has the same 707 hp 6.2-liter supercharged V8 found in the Dodge Challenger and Charger Hellcat muscle cars under its vented hood. The engine is a gloriously ridiculous novelty in all three applications, but the Trackhawk makes the most out of it.

Hellcat-powered Jeep launches (Quickly) at MMC

Courtesy of The Drive: People either get the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk, or they don’t—as Facebook commenters proved in our video from Monticello Motor Club of the madcap, 707-horsepower, Dodge Hellcat-powered Jeep. Either you think it’s awesome that a family-friendly Jeep can launch to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds, and through a quarter-mile in 11.8 seconds (at 115 mph); or you wonder why anyone would want to design, build, drive or own such a ludicrous beast.

I can argue both sides of it myself. I was a once a skeptic of high-performance SUVs, but I’ve come around: Who exactly decreed that SUVs aren’t allowed to be fast or handle capably, even thrillingly? (See: Porsche Cayenne and Macan, BMW X6 M, Audi SQ5, Alfa Romeo Stelvio). Why should car buyers have all the fun? If you’ve got the money and you’re not into tiny two-seaters, then more (literal) power to you. And for all those smug Isaac Newton wannabes, yes, we’re all aware that a tall, weighty SUV will never handle as well as a Lotus. By the way, have you seen Lotus sales lately?

3 Big Surprises on MMC’s Track

Courtesy of Torque News: We take the 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk around a track and come away surprised by three things.

Torque News was fortunate enough to have a chance to lap the incredible Monticello Motor Club in the new 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk this week. The good folks at FCA America and Dodge have made the Hellcats available to us in the past, so the amazing 707 hp engine in the Grand Cherokee Trackhawk didn’t surprise us. It always shocks us, but we knew it was going to be there and be special. During our lap, three things really stood out.

Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk – Transmission
The first and most impressive surprise was the automatic transmission in the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk. Although our own Patrick Rall is the leading authority on all things Hellcat in the American motor press, my seat time in prior Hellcats was always with the manual transmission. The TorqueFlite 8HP95 8-speed automatic in the Grand Cherokee was so intuitive we never needed to reach for a paddle. Braking into turns in Sport Mode, the Trackhawk would fire off rev-matched downshifts aggressively and put us the perfect gear for the turn’s exit.

Watch Chris Duplessis Drift A 2018 Trackhawk

Courtesy of The Drive: Monticello Motor Club track manager and driving “jedi” Chris Duplessis spent the majority of his day with The Drive this past Thursday at Monticello Motor Club. Although Chris has an extensive WRC background, he doesn’t shy away from the pavement. After spending a full day of ripping Polaris RZRs through the Monticello off-road course and ensuring everything on the track was going smoothly for the members, Chris wanted to get some seat time in the 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk.

Obviously, The Drive was more than happy to share the wealth and Chris showed us what the Trackhawk was made of. After completing an in-car review of the 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk, practicing launches and sending the 707 horsepower SUV around the track ten plus times, the Trackhawk was still ready for Duplessis’ punishment.
