The group had a successful day at the Ring Homestead Camp. The group started with a few leadership and communication exercises with each camper taking a leader role guiding the group through the assigned tasks. The communication skills they learned in these exercises were then applied when moving the group through the main ropes course, the higher ropes course, and the large ladder. By the end of our time all campers had improved tremendously with their communication skills, leading a group, and celebrating the group’s success.
We retuned to the Monticello Motor Club campus at 4:30 to have Derek, our Chief Instructor, fit the campers in their helmets and racing suits. Dinner was served in the Club House dining room; Barbeque was the food theme for the evening. Our lead instructors and Instructor Assistants introduced themselves to the group, provided a little more information about tomorrow and got to know the campers during dinner. After dinner, the group headed to the Kartrite to get settled for the evening. Some campers worked out in the fitness room and others played X-box in our group room. It was a low-key evening with campers all in their rooms by 10:00 pm in preparation for a busy day two.

Have a great day!

We were able to get a full day of camp in without any torrential rain fall! The Teen Race Camp staff was thrilled.
John had a busy day between classroom and driving the track. He worked on understanding vehicle dynamics, using ocular driving technique and basic line theory. He was in the PDK driving solo with point by passing on the South Course. A couple of our seasoned Instructor Assistants who have been racing for a couple years, drove on track with him. Taylor, his lead instructor, completed a driving profile on his performance for the day, he was pleased with his performance for the day and so was John!
The group ate dinner at Solaia which is right down the street from the MMC track. The food was great, a choice of Caeser or mixed salad, main entrée of Steak, Chicken Parmigiana or Penne A La Vodka and a dessert tray. Everyone ate well. We spent time at the arcade in the hotel and finished up in our core room playing FIFA X-Box. Tomorrow with be another busy day and all were tired so 10:00 pm was not too early for everyone to head to their rooms for a solid night of sleep.

Today John and the Competition Teen Race camp staff were unable to escape the rain. John drove extremely well in some very difficult conditions today. He drove on a fully wet track as well as a drying/transitional track. Taylor and John worked on experimenting with different lines and how to systematically evolve the line. In addition to braking and the role of ABS. It was a full day of driving with a nice lunch break in between.
The day ended about 4:30 and we headed over to the hotel to get ready for dinner out at El Sombrero in Rock Hill. Many Shirley temples were drunk, and full plates of Mexican food were enjoyed. We even snuck in a birthday surprise for Ross. No, it was not his birthday, but the group wanted to celebrate it early.
The group headed back to the hotel for a game of Lazer tag and to finish out the night with a few X-box games before heading to their rooms at 10:00 pm. Tomorrow is another busy day on the track and it looks like it will be a dry one.

Be well,

It was an amazing day out on the track today for John! The weather was perfect, and the driving conditions were different than day 3.
Today Taylor shifted John’s focus from driving to race-craft. They worked on off-line entries into corners and how to set-up and execute a pass. John did a great job with the passing exercises and the day finished with an open passing track session. Taylor and John finished early so John went over to the Off-Road track to watch the Intro to Motorsports campers drive on the off-road track in the Subaru WRX’s.
Dinner was at the Clubhouse today and it was Italian night. The campers ate well and headed back to the hotel to catch a full hour at the Waterpark. After a quick shower we all headed to the fire pits to listen to music and make smores. Football toss and some soccer rounded out the evening until it got dark. A couple campers have some school tasks to attend to for a little while and a few other campers headed to the group room to play X-box. They all had a busy day so the 10:00 pm curfew to their rooms to wind down was not an issue.
Tomorrow will be a busy day with a race out on the south course for John and the Competition Teen Race Camp staff.
We look forward to seeing you at about 4:15 for our Teen Race Camp closing ceremony in the Club House Classroom and lounge area.
Have a fantastic morning and safe travels to you.

The time spent with John at Competition Teen Race camp went fast. His growth as a driver on the track improved every day. The last day of camp, Taylor focused on preparing John for his race with the Competition staff. The morning session got John out on the track again working on the corners and feeling comfortable with other drivers passing and challenging his space. There was also some classroom discussion on starts. Right before lunch there was a qualifying race to prep John for the afternoon race. After lunch John and the staff practices starts.
John did an amazing job in the 6-lap race on the south course. Our Instructor assistants, Bridjet and Zach, and professional instructor, Tommy Cadwalader raced with John. Tommy was behind John the entire time trying to pass and push him ( I was in Tommy’s passenger seat the entire race!). He held his own and did a stellar job.
Congratulations John for successfully completing MMC’s Competition Teen Race camp! It was a pleasure having hm and we all enjoyed his quick wit and yes, his favorite Mexican music!
We hope to see John in our 3-day Race School next season. This would be the next step and give him the experience and skills to drive the MMC Track solo per the approval of our track director. We will be sure to share the 2024 Race School dates with you as soon as they are announced.
Be well and thank you again for entrusting us with your child.
