Day 1 for the Intro To Motorsports campers at Monticello Motor Club was a huge success! We could not have asked for nicer weather.
We have a great group of campers. Welcome Sachin Buluswar, Domenic Colabella, Aidan Peterson, Anthony Peterson, London Tai, Bobbi Welsh, and Jason Zaborenko.
After our camp orientation the campers were given a tour of the MMC campus, came back for some fruit and water and we all headed to the Ring Homestead Camp in Middletown to do some team building, work on leadership skills, and navigate as a team on their ropes course.
The group did a good job working on their communication skills and supporting one another to complete certain assigned tasks by Eric Ring, owner of the camp. All campers were assigned leadership tasks to complete with the group. The skills they learned were utilized while navigating the ropes course as a group. Bobbi’s yells were heard from the treetops and Sachin showed us his speedy skills on the timed ropes course event.
The team was fitted for helmets when we retuned to the MMC campus,. Before dinner, the Instructor Assistants and campers were introduced to one another. They all received their MMC camp swag and enjoyed a cookout themed dinner. Cheeseburger, chicken crab cakes French fries, three types of green salads, and potato salad were on the menu. As a surprised we all sang happy birthday to Jason who was celebrating his 13th birthday! Brownies, cookies, and the delicious soft serviced ice cream were on the dessert menu.
After dinner and spending time talking about cars and getting to know one another, the group headed to the Kartrite to get settled in their rooms. We spend time playing Spike Ball out on the lawn, relaxing by the fire pit, and playing X-box in the Team hangout room!

Campers headed to their rooms at around 9:30 with lights out at 10!
The group is looking forward to a full day at the karting track on Monday
It was a spectacular day two for the campers!
The team spent their time up at the karting track working on basic skills- kart control, racing line, braking and passing drills. Drifting and Kart control was also practiced. The weather held out and the rain came when the campers were having their lunch but was a great segway to the skid pad. The campers spent time at the skid pad driving the Subaru WRX getting acclimated to the feel of a car versus a Kart.
It was a full day from 9:15 am – 12 noon out on the track and then from 1:00 – 4:15 pm.
The group went back to the hotel to shower and then off to dinner at Solaia. All ate well and had a great time with the Instructor assistants entertaining the group. All campers received their driving profile for the day from the lead instructors to review while at the hotel. Time was spent at the fire pit then laser tag and finished their night playing X-box in our camper common space. Lights out at 10:00 pm was not an issue!
They are excited for day three.

Be well and have a great day!

Intro to Motorsports day three was full of driving for our excited campers.
In the am the campers did Skid Pad karting on dry and wet surfaces and driving the Subaru WRX on the north course track. The team then moved to an Auto X on the wet skid pad with the Subaru WRX’s.
We were unable to escape the rain in the afternoon so for about an hour the campers did reaction time training using tennis balls and the Blaze Pods. Once the rain stopped the group finished their day with Karting enduro on the skid in full wet conditions.
At the end of the day, they were tired, wet, and ready for dinner. We headed back to the hotel for showers and went out to dinner in Rock Hill at El Sombrero. All ate well!
The evening back at the hotel was low key with some football tossing and Xbox. They called it a night before 9:30. The group has been working hard and learning a lot. Tomorrow will bring another great day at the track!

Be well,

It was a sunny warm day at Monticello. Day 4 for our Teen Campers was spent at our off-road track in the morning and afternoon. Today’s focus was safe handling of the Subaru WRX on off road conditions. The team found this to be very different than on the track and skid pad. Once the campers become more confident with their off-road car handling skills, Bryan and Stuart timed their off-road course runs.
Skills that were introduced and practiced: Scandinavian flick, weight transfer, driving on dirt, car control, and how to use the pedals to induce rotation.
We had pasta night at the MMC Club House dining room. After dinner, the campers received their driving profiles for the day and read them on the way back to the hotel. Once we arrived at the hotel it was off to the water park, vertical climbing, some pool playing and ice hockey. A breather was taken at the fire pits to make some smores then it was off to toss the football. The night slowed down with some time playing with the Xbox and then off to their rooms everyone went to pack up their belonging in preparation of their last day of camp. It’s hard to believe our last day of camp is tomorrow, it came so fast!

Hard to believe Day 5 arrived, the time flew by so fast. The campers were a joy to have, and we all had a great time. The drives to and from the hotel in the morning and afternoon were great between the conversations and the music. There was never a dull moment!
The last day of camp was centered around the Race of Champions which utilized all the skills they learned and applied them to the events they did at off-road, skid pad and the karting track.
